Our Team

Ski Patrol Rescue Team (SPART) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization powered entirely by dedicated, highly trained volunteers. We provide search and rescue services at no cost to those we serve, because when someone needs help in the backcountry, the only thing that matters is getting them home safely.

Founded in 1966, SPART was born from necessity. Following a major avalanche at Snoqualmie Pass, the King County Sheriff’s Office turned to Nordic Ski Patrollers stationed at the pass for support and a rescue team was formed. Nearly six decades later, that same spirit of skilled, community-driven response defines everything we do.

Today, SPART’s more than 50 members proudly operate as a member unit of the King County Search and Rescue Association (KCSARA), the coordinating body for search and rescue operations in King County under the authority of the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Every SPART member holds active membership in the National Ski Patrol (NSP), and most serve as working ski patrollers at resorts throughout King County. This means our team brings real-world, hands-on experience to every mission, not just training credentials.

Patient Care
The majority of our members are certified EMTs or Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) Technicians, providing regular patient care in pre-hospital and austere environments. When conditions are most unforgiving, we are prepared.

Avalanche Expertise
Avalanche work is a core strength of our team. We have deep expertise in avalanche mitigation and terrain management, with our education program led by six American Avalanche Association (A3) Professional Members and supported by additional A3 Affiliate members. Several of our team members also work alongside trained avalanche dogs, an invaluable asset in buried victim searches.

Technical Rescue
SPART specializes in patient extrication in winter environments, combining NSP Outdoor Emergency Transportation (OET) skills with advanced technical rigging. Whether on steep terrain, in a tree well, or deep in the backcountry, we have the training and equipment to bring patients out safely.

Board of Directors

SPART Board Meetings are normally held on the 3rd Thursday of each month. All members are encouraged to attend. SPART Members recieve calendar invites for all board meetings.
