SPART / Hyak Beacon Park
The Beacon Park is a practice area where people can test and sharpen avalanche rescue skills. A control box starts a timed exercise; multiple beacons are buried at random locations throughout the park. As each one is found, it stops transmitting and the system registers the find. It is a hands-on resource for anyone who wants to practice before heading into the backcountry.
We installed our first park at Hyak and are planning a second location at Mountaineers. (Recent low snowpack has delayed installation, but we are eager to get it in.)
